Huang,Kuan-Chun

In both learning and life, we inevitably encounter challenges and difficulties that cannot be avoided. Sometimes, these obstacles stem from external circumstances, while at other times, they arise from internal anxieties and struggles.
Mr. Huang aspires for his guidance not only to help students grow but also to equip them with the skills to face future challenges and the courage to solve problems along the way.

From Industry to Academia: The Source of Passion for Teaching

Mr. Huang shared his career development journey after graduating from university. Initially, he chose to enter the industry, hoping to gain cutting-edge technical knowledge and hands-on experience on the front lines. He emphasized that while working in the industry was stressful, it also provided valuable insights and opportunities to collaborate with top talent. Later, due to a twist of fate, he decided to return to academia, where he gradually discovered the joys of teaching.
Quoting Feynman’s famous saying, “The best way to truly understand something is to teach it,” Mr. Huang expressed how the teaching process not only enhanced his professional skills but also deepened his understanding of his field through interactions with students, fostering mutual growth.

Teaching Through Engagement: Exploring Expertise and Building Class Cohesion

When discussing class activities, Mr. Huang mentioned organizing factory visits each semester, creating unforgettable memories for both teachers and students. A departmental tradition requires students to participate in at least six factory visits over their four years of study. These visits not only broaden students’ professional horizons but also strengthen class cohesion. During these trips, Mr. Huang always accompanies the students, often acting as a “tour guide,” using humor and engaging anecdotes to entertain them, turning otherwise mundane journeys into delightful experiences.
Leveraging his professional background and past certification as a foreign-language tour guide, Mr. Huang prepares by researching the features of the factories to be visited. He provides brief introductions to key highlights, helping students immerse themselves in the experience. These activities give students a chance to unwind, fostering closer connections between teacher and students while adding a touch of relaxation and warmth to their otherwise demanding academic lives.

Words for Students: Laying the Foundation to Unlock Future Potential

When encouraging his students, Mr. Huang emphasizes the importance of “there’s no such thing as a free lunch” and “you reap what you sow.”
He believes students should make the most of their university years to build a solid foundation, whether in professional skills or personal qualities, as these will become assets for their future. Furthermore, he advises students to discover the joy and value of their studies and to immerse themselves fully in the experience.
Finally, Mr. Huang encourages students not only to develop hard skills but also to enhance their soft skills, such as an open mindset and effective communication abilities. These traits will make them more competitive in their future careers and life choices.
